Sheer luck and coincidence brought me to the practice of liver surgery. My mentor, Prof. Mohamed Rela discovered me and selflessly transmitted all that I know today in liver surgery and transplantation. While the learning was a great blessing, its practice in 21st century India has thankfully proven very challenging. Commercial success was not at all difficult to achieve, but my perceived lack of meaning in that journey made me move away from my mentor. I am a traveller in a pathway searching for “The Truth“.
This process has been the most interesting part of my life till now, both personal and professional. A process of Self-realisation. Intense search and learning. Retreating to a much less busy job allowed me the time and freedom to read, reflect, meditate, travel, meet great souls, become still and to rescue myself from thinking endlessly.
Some of the great souls who influenced my way of life in this period have done so through their selfless work. They include
- My mentor and guide, Prof. V. Sitaram, Retired Professor of Surgery at Christian Medical College, Vellore.
- Dr. Ravikannan at Cachar Cancer hospital, Silchar.
- Dr. Yogesh Jain at Jan Swasthya Sahyog, Ganiyari.
- Dr. Regi George and Dr. Lalitha at Tribal Health Initiative, Sittilingi
- Mrs. Lindsay Ranjan at Jan Chetna Manch, Bokaro.
- Dr. Taru Jindal whose work in impoverished rural Bihar was exemplary.
I am profoundly grateful to these great souls for setting living examples of unparelled selflessness and kindness, attributes which teach me unconditional love through which I witness life everyday.
I am profoundly influenced by the teachings of Shri Ram Dass and through him meet my Sadguru, Maharajji Neem Karoli Baba whose graceful presence in my life is transforming my life experiences in unforeseen ways.
The writings one finds here would certainly have a good number of mistakes and contradictions and certainly, lack of brevity. I am only one of the many travellers in ‘a’ pathway seeking Truth and mistakes are natural. These writings are principally for self-reflection and improvement. But, for someone intending to travel this pathway, whatever profession they are in, I sincerely intend that these writings serve as a light house.
